| One of the PCP air rifle designs that is not as widely encountered, is the bottle fed gun. In these rifles a high volume air “bottle” is affixed to the gun to deliver air ….. a lot of air … to power the gun. It’s the same idea as the conventional onboard air reservoir, but the bottles typically 400-500 cc capacity, holds a significantly higher volume of air which in turn increases the number of shots available to the shooter.
The bottles are typically mounted to the forestock of the gun (in designs such as the FX Royale) or are incorporated into the buttstock |

| as seen in the AirForce Condor and Talon rifles. This can more than double the shot count over a conventional design, and is especially useful in guns used for hunting where the maximum possible power is desired while maintaining a high shot count. If you’re out shooting ground squirrels or prairie dog you don’t want to have to refill the gun every 15 shots.
A new gun just being released by the Korean Manufacturer Evanix and sold through Pyramyd Airguns in North America, is called the “Monster”. This gun is different from any other bottle fed gun I’ve seen, and what makes it unique is that it has air bottles forward and aft! The monster has two 400 cc bottles, one affixed to the forstock and one incorporated into the butt stock. The forestock is configured to sheath the bottle so that it doesn’t interfere with the shooters hold. The two bottles are filled and discharged through a single conduit, so it is transparent to the shooter where the air is coming from. The pressure is the same in both bottles, and therefore the air flows to the valve from both. The fill pressure of the bottles is 200 BAR, and the pressure is monitored via a manometer mounted on the top of the stock just behind the receiver. |

| The filling port is easily accessable, and the gun is filled with demounting the bottles. | A proprietary fast detach coupling connector comes with the gun. It's fast and easy to use. | |||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| This graph (above) plots the pressure run down over 130 shots, from 200 to 50 BAR. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| The Evanix Monster, Rainstorm, and Windy City use the same actions, and in all three platforms have proven reliable, accurate, powerful in my test guns. This picture shows the Monster (above) and Windy City side by side. | ||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||||
| And the result of the two bottle configuration? A lot of shooting! I fully charged the gun to 200 BAR and ran it down to 50 BAR, with the corresponding velocities dropping from 1101 fps to 766 fps using Beeman Double Gold pellets. The first 100 shots varied from 1101 to 892 fps, but running the gun down to 50 BAR I actually obtained 130 usable shots. Considering the Pyramyd catalog stated approximately 100 shots, I thought this was a fair claim on their part. No doubt the POI would shift at the lower end of the pressure curve, but I could keep shooting if I needed to while hiking back to the truck for a refill.
I found the guns ergonomics good overall, the stock is well shaped, actually looking like the Windy City with the butt cut off and the pressure gauge relocated, but with the same well shaped forestock. The buttstock consist of the rear bottle with a well designed butt and pistol grip sheathing it. The length of pull on this set up is a little short, but did not interfere with accurate shooting. And like its siblings the Rainstorm and the Windy City, it is a shooter. As a matter of fact it was the most accurate of the three, though as the action is the same in all three I’m not sure if this was just luck of the draw. Not to misstate, all three are very accurate, but the Monster was very accurate and a little bit more. Following are some photos and examples of my initial range experience. I haven’t had the chance to bring this gun out hunting yet …… but can’t wait! |
